“Dancehall Artist Skeng Makes Stellar Appearance in Nicki Minaj’s ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’ Music Video”

Dancehall sensation Skeng has taken the music world by storm with his captivating appearance in the official music video for “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” alongside rap queen Nicki Minaj. Since its release on Saturday (May 13), the visually stunning video has already amassed over 634,000 views on YouTube, captivating audiences worldwide.

In February, Minaj tantalized fans with behind-the-scenes glimpses of the music video shoot, which took place in Trinidad during their visit for carnival festivities. The rapper shared her excitement and support for the music video on her Instagram page, while extending warm wishes for Mother’s Day to her devoted fans.

The majority of the video prominently features Minaj’s close friend and Basketball Wives: LA star, Brooke Bailey. Skeng’s part, however, showcases his effortless style as he leans nonchalantly against the front of a vibrant pink Rolls Royce, exuding coolness while enjoying a puff of smoke. Minaj herself confidently delivers her verses while comfortably lying atop the car’s bonnet.

“Red Ruby Da Sleeze” ingeniously incorporates samples from Lumidee’s rendition of Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden’s iconic Diwali riddim, which gained fame over two decades ago. Originally released in 2002, the Diwali Riddim showcased notable tracks such as Sean Paul’s “Get Busy” and Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go,” both of which charted on the esteemed Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, it featured beloved Jamaican hits like Bounty Killer’s “Sufferer,” Wayne Marshall’s “Overcome,” Danny English & Egg Nog’s “Party Time,” and Agent Sasco’s “Ruffest and Tuffest.”

Lumidee, the Harlem-based singer, introduced her captivating R&B rendition of Diwali in the chart-topping hit “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)” in 2003, which peaked at an impressive No. 3 on the Hot 100. Subsequently, artists such as Rihanna and Brick & Lace explored their own creative endeavors on the riddim with the infectious tracks “Pon De Replay” and “Love is Wicked,” respectively.

Skeng’s remarkable presence in Nicki Minaj’s “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” music video adds an electrifying touch to the already mesmerizing visuals, solidifying his status as an emerging force in the dancehall scene.
