Young Thug Rushed to Hospital for Unknown illness Ahead of Court Appearance

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, Atlanta rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for an undisclosed illness, just before his scheduled court appearance. Young Thug’s defense attorneys had recently filed a fourth motion for bond, citing health concerns among other reasons, as to why they think the judge should grant him bail pending the outcome of the trial.

While the judge has not yet ruled on the motion, Young Thug is currently being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital after falling sick while in jail. During the court hearing, his lawyers informed Judge Glanville that his condition was unknown, and they had been informed by the Sheriff’s department that they could not see Williams in the hospital.

Attorney Keith Adams informed the judge that he had asked the Sheriff’s department if he would be allowed to see his client, or if he would be able to make contact with him while at Grady Memorial Hospital. However, the response he received was negative. The attorney also reminded the judge that the rapper had experienced a similar illness while being housed at the Dekalb county jail a few months earlier.

“I do know that he has had some difficulties of a similar sort in Dekalb county jail a few months ago, and so am also very concerned about his well-being and his current condition,” Adams said.

The lawyer later asked the judge to intervene and assist in getting the Sheriff’s Department to allow him to see the rapper in the hospital. Currently, the nature of Young Thug’s illness or his condition is unknown. However, in the motion for bond filed last month, his lawyers indicated that he was sleep deprived and had limited access to nutritional options.

Young Thug’s lawyers stated that he was mandated to wake up between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on court days and was not getting more than five hours of sleep per night. They added that, by the end of the week, the rapper was struggling to pay attention to the proceedings of his case.

In addition to his health concerns, Young Thug’s brother, Quantavious Grier, popularly known as Unfoonk, was recently arrested for probation violation after being caught with a firearm. Unfoonk was among several co-defendants of Young Thug who took plea deals in December and were released from behind bars.
